Lommel Residents’ Survey Positive for E-Truck

A residents’ survey in Lommel has shown that electric, freight transport is regarded very positively. “Our residents noticed that an electric lorry was driving around in the last few months with the town of Lommel’s logo on it”, explained the mayor, Peter Vanvelthoven. “Or perhaps not, because one of the positive findings of the survey was the reduced level of noise”, added the mayor. “The lorry was even built here in Lommel  by E-Trucks Europe.” The lorry was used on a set route in Lommel for a year as part of a project under the Flemish Living Lab Electric Vehicles programme, which is chiefly concerned with building and converting various vans, lorries and busses to be driven by electricity. After a year, the Vrije Universiteit Brussel organised a survey in Lommel. “It showed that the e-truck is regarded as a good thing. The reduced emission of CO2 and the lower amount of noise in comparison with conventional lorries did particularly well.”

“The use of this e-truck in Lommel is entirely in keeping with the town of Lommel’s ambition to reduce CO2 emissions by more than 20%”, stated the municipal portfolio-holder for the environment, Kris Verduyckt. “Electric transport offers a lot of advantages. Electric vehicles have the potential to reduce transport-related environmental problems. An electric vehicle also produces less noise. Electric mobility is definitely a part of our healthy climate ambitions.”

The residents’ survey also included a competition, of which Inge de Corte was the lucky winner. She won the opportunity to drive an electric van from Punch Powertrain for a week. It was a pleasure to receive the keys and she found the experience very satisfying, “The car drove easily and even accelerated well. It’s definitely just as good as any other car.”
